Garmin eTrex 20 Vs GPSMap 64

Are you confused about choosing between Garmin eTrex 20 and Garmin GPSMap 64? These two products are both handheld GPS devices that are loved by many because of their high performance and durability. Both products are popular choices for outdoor sports and trips. Nevertheless, more often than not, you will find Garmin GPSMap 64 to be a little bit pricier than Garmin eTrex 20. So, what are the differences between these two models, and which is the one that you should choose?

Design

Garmin eTrex 20 comes with a simple and straightforward design. It is small enough to allow convenient holding in a single hand, and the edges are rounded to ensure a comfortable grip. The buttons are put neatly on the sides to save space, at angles that can be easily reached by the fingers. Meanwhile, on the front surface, you can find a 2.2-inch transflective TFT display screen.

The display has 240 x 320 resolution, generating such a sharp and crisp visualization. On the other hand, Garmin GPSMap 64 comes with a rather bulky body. It doesn’t exactly look elegant due to the fat and bulky antenna on the top, but it is still slim enough to allow convenient one-handed operation. The buttons are put under the display screen.

Yet, the display only has 160 x 240 resolution. Thus, it doesn’t look as sharp. Garmin GPSMap 64 is also heavier than Garmin eTrex 20. Both models are weatherproof, able to withstand some splashes and rain with their IPX7 rating. (Read also: Garmin eTrex 20 Vs 30)

Features

Both models are armed with GPS and GLONASS for the most precise and accurate, unmatched tracking performance. They also come with various mapping features, such as the ability to save up to 200 routes and pinpoint important locations on the map.

However, since Garmin GPSMap 64 comes with a slightly bigger internal memory, it can store more locations and log data. It can save up to 5000 waypoints or favorite locations, as opposed to Garmin eTrex 20’s maximum 2000. In addition, Garmin GPSMap 64 also features an internal buzzer that can notify you whenever there is important information on the device.

Anyhow, battery life is also an important aspect that we should not ignore. Garmin GPSMap 64 only has a maximum battery life of 16 hours, whilst Garmin eTrex 20 offers up to 25 hours of continuous runtime per single charge.
